St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill
This is the 4th year that St. Matthew (Sandy Hill), Immanuel (Wiedeville), St. John (Prairie
Hill), Eben-Ezer (Berlin), and Zion (Zionsville) Lutheran churches have participated in
Co-Op confirmation. The churches meet monthly, usually on the second Sunday of the
month. Each meeting includes 3 hours of instruction and worship. In addition there is a
time for parents and students from each congregation to meet with the pastor and other
instructors. In all of the churches, confirmation is a 2 year program, generally for
students in grades 7 & 8. Each congregation provides their own additional instruction and
service opportunities.
The goal of confirmation is to continue the process of forming young people into lifelong
disciples of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We strive to give students a basic
knowledge of the Christian faith as understood and practiced by Lutherans. In 2007 -
2008 our course focused on the historical creeds of the church: the Apostle's Creed and
Nicene Creed. We also learned the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the
sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. The 2008 - 2009 program will focus on the
Bible.
